Basic Necropsy Protocols and Sampling Procedures
MMC will be holding a “Basic Necropsy Protocols & Sampling Procedures” training class on Monday, November 7th at 7:30pm. The class will be at the University of Miami and will be part of a training with UM’s Marine Mammal Stranding Team, but all MMC volunteers are highly encouraged to attend!
The course covers:
- Purpose of a necropsy
- Personal Safety
- Equipment
- Roles on a necropsy team
- Establishing field identifiers
- Field necropsy logistics
- Data sheets and documentation
- Gross assessment and morphometrics
- Basic anatomy
- Codes and sampling
- Proper packaging and storage of samples
- Identifying signs of human interaction

Course Fee: All MMC courses are free for existing and new volunteers, however a $5.00 donation is suggested to help us cover the cost of course materials.
