3: Atlantic Bottlenose Released!
Rescuers successfully released the 2-3 year old male bottle nose dolphin dubbed as “Orion” this morning. Orion, or officially MMC TT O403, was released back into the bay waters near channel #2 bridge where he was found by Captain Kevin “Killer” Onysko earlier this month.
A two week rehabilitation was successful to heal wounds that he sustained on his fluke from being entangled in a lobster trap line. Orion was kept in a private lagoon, fed fresh fish daily, given wound care, antibiotics, minimal physical therapy and closely monitored 24 hours a day at the Marine Mammal Conservancy’s property in Key largo.
As volunteers watched his activity level increase daily, all agreed that he was ready to go.
